In one of the greatest documentary series produced for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation television shows how a nation almost without any knowledge of oil production has evolved to become an oil superpower technology - and a huge financial success.
Through five episodes recounted how one of the most important industrial sectors in Norwegian history has evolved from the 1960s to the present day. Norway was a country without knowledge of oil and gas when international oil giants in 1962 wanted to exploration in the North Sea. But since the first oil discovery on Ekofisk in 1969, Norway established a position as technological and economic power, largely because of the huge revenues from the seabed on the Norwegian continental shelf.
Television series tells the story of how it was discovered that the areas outside Norway could contain oil, how Norway secured control over their own resources in combat with international oil companies, how a community changes when the oil industry makes inroads, the major challenges of industrial activity in one of the roughest seas in the world, and about the impact of oil and gas revenues has been the development of the Norwegian welfare state.
