Zamboanga has to be the most curiously titled film ever released by Grand National Pictures. Originally produced and distributed by Filippine (sic) Film Productions, this 64-minute documentary offers fascinating glimpses of the Philippine city of Zamboanga. For the benefit of those uninterested in travelogues, the producers have hoked up a plot involving a "woman hunt" conducted by young male islanders in search of mates. The granddaughter of a tribal ruler is highly coveted by a much-married potentate, but the pearl-diving hero wins out with a little help from his friends. The natives remain discreetly clothed throughout, which undoubtedly disappointed those filmgoers who'd been weaned on the "filthy pictures" in National Geographic.
