This gentle, elegaic movie is a celebration of rivers, of learning, of ecology, and of love. Much of its action occurs in the classroom, as young Tony (Antonio Punturiero) learns from his teacher Joe Glass (Nollag'o Flannabhra) about the environmental and economic importance of rivers. Tony grew up in the bush, and flashbacks of his idyllic time in the outdoors take place while he is in class. The teacher also spends time with his girlfriend, a lively Armenian woman (Kathryn Chalker) who is homesick for the land of her birth, and their love is also shown in flashbacks from the classroom, as he associates certain drawings he is making on the blackboard with her breasts.
