James Lackaye and Ray L. Royce repeated their stage roles in the film version of the popular play York State Folks. Set in an Upstate New York farming community, the story gets under way when a ragtag Uncle Tom's Cabin troupe arrives on the scene. The troupe's crafty manager, played by Will H. Phibrick, convinces the locals to invest in his money-losing enterprise. It is up to heroes Lackaye and Royce to prevent the town from being fleeced. James Lackaye was the look-alike brother of stage luminary Wilton Lackaye, a fact that hurt his own theatrical career not one bit.
