The Yaju Shisubeshi series is a venerable one. The first one -- starring Tatsuya Nakadai -- depicted a cracked grad student who commits the perfect murder. In this go-around, directed by Hironichi Masato, the featured sociopath is Kunihiko Date (Kazuya Kimura), a guy with a cool car and great hair. At the film's outset, Date is tooling around Tokyo in his BMW when he happens on a cop staking out a drug den. With a breezy insouciance, he bludgeons the cop, steals his uniform, and shoots him with his one gun. Then sporting his ill-gotten uniform, he approaches a mob kingpin posing as a policeman about to make an arrest. Instead, he handcuffs the boss to his car, thrashes his bodyguard, and walks off with a suitcase filled with money. With detective Katsu Oki (Toshiya Nagasawa) hot on his trail, Date plots an even bigger crime, an armored truck heist.
