Roy Hanford (Darrel Foss) lives under the domination of a cold wife (Laura Sears) and a stern father (Walt Whitman) who's the town's deacon. Finally, Hanford leaves home for another city, and in a saloon, he meets "Breeze" Ballard (Arthur Moon), a traveling salesman who gets him a job as a bookkeeper at his firm. As Hanford works his way up in the company, he courts stenographer Jeannie McGregor (Margery Wilson). Breeze also cares for her, but he's out of town too much to do anything about the romance. So Hanford marries Jeannie, which causes problems later when his father shows up and tries to have him arrested for bigamy. Hanford begs Jeannie to claim that they were never married, and she obliges. The father takes his wayward son home, where he once again takes to drink and eventually dies when he falls off a cliff. Jeannie and her child come to live with kindly Mrs. Dawson (Anna Dodge), who lives near the Hanford residence. When the deacon finds out that the girl is in town, he gathers his fellow zealots together to denounce her. But Breeze arrives and proves that there was a marriage certificate between Hanford and Jeannie. After he's chased the throng out of the house, he and Jeannie are united.
