A long-lost silent melodrama, Will O' the Wisp made stars of blonde Jackie Saunders and future director Henry King. The latter played Larry Thorn, a novelist hermit rejected by his fiancée (Madeline Pardee). Living in a shack in the wilderness, Larry is acquainted by Hazel (Saunders), a nature child known as the "Will O' the Wisp," with whom he falls madly in love. She, in turn, is more or less sold by her evil stepfather (Charles Dudley) to a phony nobleman (Robert Grey). There is a devastating flood during which Larry attempts to save both Hazel and her pursuer, but only succeeds in rescuing the girl. The Will O' the Wisp was filmed under less than desirable conditions in a flooded area near Los Cerritos, CA, by the Balboa company of Long Beach.
