Filmmaker Lav Diaz takes a break from his epic-length feature films with this contemplative short subject. It's a cloudy afternoon in Sagada, a village in the Philippines, and as a sudden storm brings a hard rain down upon a muddy street, a camera sitting outside a neighborhood shop captures the downpour on film, as well as the townspeople dealing with the water and mud left in its wake. When The Rain Ended was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
