Filmmaker Moira Tierney created this short subject while traveling through Russia with a group of experimental film artists. Tierney and her friends noticed that at the same time every morning, a man would take a swim in the frigid waters of Lake Seliger, not far from Moscow. Tierney captured the man's daily ritual on film one day, and Morzh (aka Walrus) is a cinematic portrait of what she calls a "Moscow tower block polar bear." Morzh was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
