How would the famed Three Musketeers, of the Alexandre Dumas novel, go about passing the torch to a new generation of heroes once they reach the ends of their lives? That's the question posed by this whimsical Russian-language fantasy adventure from director Georgy Yungvald-Khilkevich. As the tale opens, the said heroes - Athos, Portos and Aramis, plus aspiring musketeer D'Artagnan - all die and go to Heaven. Alas, the afterlife is not the paradise of Christian teaching, but a thoroughly boring place of nothingness, where the only pleasure lies in the ability to observe earthly goings-on. Meanwhile, on Earth, chaos reigns in France: the French queen has ruined much of the country through sheer ineptitude, while a scheming, cunning Cardinal has wrested control of vast portions of the land. In a final, desperate bid for the restoration of order, French leaders summon the Musketeers' children to save the day, but they are both young and ill-equipped, and have almost no formal experience or training as heroes. In response, D'Artagnan calls a meeting with the Almighty and asks God to send him and his friends back to Earth, so that they can assist the new generation in fighting off the Cardinal's minions.
