The four-reel Victim of War was set on the Bulgarian-Serbian border in the early stages of WWI. Bulgarian aviator Maurice and Serbian army officer Ivan are both in love with a Bulgarian noblewoman. During a brief cessation in the hostilities, Ivan elopes with the heroine. By the time they tie the knot, however, the cease-fire has been called off and the couple find themselves in hostile territory. Captured by the Bulgarian army, Ivan is thrown out on the highway to fend for himself, while the girl remains a prisoner. Hearing of this, Maurice decides to save the heroine -- for himself, that is. As Maurice and the girl fly overhead, the repatriated Ivan, now leading his own command again, spots their plane. Not knowing the identity of the plane's occupants, he orders his troops to open fire. The plane crashes to the ground, thus claiming two more "victims of war."
