Tom Mix, arguably his generation's most popular cowboy star, liked to push the envelope once in a while. In Up and Going, based on Mix's own story, Arctic Trails, the star played a titled, polo playing Northwest Mounted Police officer. From an elderly woman (Carol Holloway in old-age make-up), Tom learns that childhood girlfriend Jackie McNabb (Eva Novak) is being kept prisoner by evil Basil Du Bois (William Conklin). The young officer tracks down the kidnapper and following an exciting underwater fight, he manages to rescue the girl. The old woman, meanwhile, turns out to be Tom's long-lost mother. Holloway had also played Mix's mother (in a prologue) in the previous year's Trailin'. As usual, Mix's gang of hangers-on -- including Sid Jordan and Pat Chrisman -- appeared in supporting roles.
