This specialized documentary looks at an off-the-wall topic: the history of the San Francisco Mime Troupe, and for a good part of its 85-minute running time, performances of the troupe are shown. The early history of the miming ensemble is illustrated with archival footage and interviews with long-ago troupe members Peter Coyote and Bill Graham who both went on to active careers in the theater and film (Coyote), and rock promotion (Graham). The troupe started out locally and eventually ended up traveling on national and international tours. Their brand of political satire accompanied by music is universal enough to entertain any audience, as a session with trade unionists in East Chicago, Indiana clearly shows.
