The most popular canine star of his era, Rin Tin Tin is falsely accused of killing his owner, an old prospector (Charles Sellon), and forced to flee into the woods in this exciting Northwest melodrama produced by Warner Brothers. The real murderer, however, is Jules Renault (Mitchell Lewis), who is spotted returning to the scene of the crime by young Terry Moulton (future director David Butler). Moulton, who is engaged to the dead prospector's daughter Joan (June Marlowe of Our Gang fame), follows the villain to the mine. Hiding in the bushes, Terry overhears Renault threaten to kill Rinty just as he did the dog's owner. His hiding place discovered, Moulton is overpowered by Renault; but the villain still has to deal with the increasingly irate Rinty, who chases him to his death in a frozen lake. The incredibly popular Rin Tin Tin basically financed the struggling Warner Bros.' experiments with sound films that in 1927 gave an unsuspecting world The Jazz Singer.
