Thru Darkest Africa was subtitled In Search of White Rhinoceros. That pretty much sums up the "plot" of this feature-length documentary, which was culled from films shot during the African expedition of Captain Harry Eustace and his wife. Outside of a few natives, Mr. and Mrs. Eustace were the only "human" performers in this moderately fascinating effort. Apparently, the Eustaces muffed several opportunities to film rare animal specimens on the hoof; most of the shots suggest that the cameraman turned on the camera just in time to miss the most crucial bit of action. Still, Thru Darkest Africa turned a profit, probably because it didn't cost much in the first place.
