Fittingly, this Essanay one-reeler was released during Thanksgiving Week of 1909. The main character is a farm boy who leaves home, hearth, and sweetheart behind to go to the Big City. Here he falls in with a fast crowd, and soon is squandering his meager savings on liquor and ladies. Halfway through the picture, the hero suddenly reforms, then heads to the gold fields in hopes of striking it rich. He does, and in the closing scenes he turns all his newfound wealth over to his hometown sweetheart. The Variety reviewer, apparently jaded by too many films of this nature, dismissed Three Thanksgivings as "hackneyed."
