Described by Variety as an "old fashioned melodrama" (this in 1914), this Gaumont three-reeler concentrates on the travails of a young violinist named Helene. Through the machinations of Mme. Ravelli, her beautiful but treacherous mother, Helene is invited to give a private concert in the home of the Countess D'Arriga. While the girl fiddles away, Ravelli spikes the Countess' drink with a sleeping potion, then proceeds to steal everything that isn't nailed down. Alas, the Countess dies of shock, whereupon Helene, believing herself responsible for her patroness' death, runs off to Amsterdam, where she secures work in a restaurant orchestra. But wherever she goes, Helene is haunted by the "three shadows" of Mme. Ravelli and her two partners in crime.
