This Essanay drama sums up the morality of the 1910s in just three reels. William Gregory (Sydney Ainsworth) is a lawyer out in the country. He takes advantage of innocent Elsie Lyons (Lillian Drew), who loves him. When she has a baby, Gregory makes himself scarce, but after a year, he returns and steals the child. Elsie, believing the infant is dead, becomes an "adventuress" (a thinly veiled euphemism for a woman who uses sex to get whatever she wants). Gregory, meanwhile, believes Elsie has died, and raises the little girl in the city. He is well-respected in his profession and his daughter is a favorite in society. The day comes, however, that Elsie and Gregory meet again; when she finds out he has a daughter, she swears to get revenge through the girl.
