Arthur Rayburn (William Desmond) has recently been ordained and is engaged to Rene (Carol Halloway), the daughter of the Bishop (J. Frank Burke). But at the reception, he is tricked into drinking some punch that has been spiked with alcohol and makes a fool of himself. The Bishop defrocks him and tosses him out on the street, where he continues his bender. He finally trades in his cross for a last drink, intending to head for the river when he's through, but he is stopped from drowning himself by Rags (Jane Gray), the bar's piano player. She helps him regenerate himself and becomes his assistant when he opens up a mission. The Bishop hears about the mission's good deeds and comes around with his daughter to see for himself. He discovers that Rayburn is in charge and takes him back into the church. Rayburn proposes to Rags, but she realizes that he still loves Rene and turns him down.
