Arne Ragneborn is both star and director of the Swedish melodrama The Vicious Breed. Ragneborn plays a juvenile delinquent who derives a near-erotic pleasure from violence and sadism. As a result, the audience's sympathy is redirected to the "hero's" long-suffering girlfriend Maj-Britt Lindholm. The film details Ragneborn's efforts to elude the authorities after a particularly vicious act of brutality, and it is to the director's credit that he manages to keep the film's suspense quota at a high level, despite the fact that if anybody deserves to be shot down in flames, it is Ragneborn. A scene involving a homosexual encounter was excised from most English-language prints of The Vicious Breed.
