Although Walter Norman (Holbrook Blinn) is a member of New York society, he's a hard drinking man. A friend takes him on a cruise in his yacht and helps cure him, and when he returns he meets Julia Landis. Julia hates liquor and those who imbibe, and since Norman doesn't touch the stuff, they become engaged. But her jilted suitor, John Royce knows about Norman's weakness, so he gets him drunk and parades him in front of Julia. Naturally, she dumps Norman and marries Royce. Norman continues his binge and winds up in the gutter before pulling himself together. After he is once again sober, he gets an inheritance and uses it to ruin Royce, who's a stockbroker. Royce is also being blackmailed, and when he runs out of money, his blackmailer shoots him. Norman is charged with the murder and isn't cleared of the crime until he's on his way to the electric chair. He's released, and he wins Royce's widow.
