When Chandler (Ben Hill) comes to town and claims to be an author in search of "local color," it means one of two things -- either he is a tired cliché of a movie character, or he is the leader of an opium smuggling ring. The "Unknown Ranger" (Rex Ray) unmasks him as the latter in this subpar silent western. But then, it's pretty easy to figure out that Chandler is the bad guy -- first he cheats at cards, then he makes moves on the ranger's sweetie, Jo (Marie Newell). In a mildly thrilling gun fight, the ranger pursues the villain over high cliffs. Chandler, however, is only wounded and heads for Jo's ranch. He claims that the ranger shot him in a jealous rage, but our hero bursts in and proves him very wrong. Then he proves he's also not a very good ranger by letting the villain get away.
