Although this bit of patriotic propaganda uses the title of America's national anthem, it was based on a story by Mary R.S. Andrews. Evelyn Shelby (Nellie Grant) is an American widow who is living in London with her son, Roger (Paul Kelly). Roger has attended school in England all his life and become a resounding Anglophile; when Evelyn marries Colonel Barron, a Marine Corps officer (Herbert Evans), Roger is disappointed that he isn't British. Colonel Barron relocates his new family to a base in America and everyone is scandalized when Roger refuses to salute the American flag. He won't listen when the Colonel tries to make him see the error of his ways, but the day comes when Roger injures his ankle on a hunting trip. After he doesn't come home, the Colonel rounds up a group of his fellow Marines and they rescue him. Once he has recovered, Roger admits that he was wrong, and becomes a "real" American.
