It would seem that the Edison company sent a special unit to the Canadian Northwest in 1910, to judge by the number of Edison films set in that particular region. On the other hand, it is just as likely that the studio made a more economical jaunt to Upstate New York. Whatever the case, The Song That Reached His Heart is all about a Canadian lumberman who is unexpectedly reunited with a former sweetheart. The two ex-lovers are brought together by the title song (a then-popular romantic ballad) and by a melodramatic last-act development wherein the villain tries to rob the heroine of her life savings. The direction was good enough to suggest that the film was helmed by Edison's most talented director, John Collins.
