The Sailor's Dog told a perfunctory tale in a perfunctory manner. Shipwrecked by a storm at sea, a fisherman washes up on the shore of his own home village. The fisherman's dog discovers the body and alerts the man's wife. She rushes to her husband's side, only to discover that the man has already expired. The film closes as the wife weeps over her husband's lifeless form. In and of itself, this sad little story was not all that compelling. What "sold" The Sailor's Dog were the shipwreck scenes, accomplished via double exposure and clever mechanical devices.
