Released by Pathe's New York subsidiary Eclectic Films, Royal Imposter may or may not have been filmed in Europe. The main character is Enrico, a well-known scoundrel who murders the king of a tiny European country and assumes the monarch's identity. Even though he refuses to follow royal protocol, the boorish Enrico manages to pull off his masquerade. He finally meets his Waterloo when he invites his former sweetheart Valerie to visit him in the palace. Unwittingly, Valerie aids the prime minister in his efforts to expose Enrico as a fraud. In the tradition of earlier Pathe releases, Royal Imposter was color-tinted by hand.
