David Severn (Alan Scarfe) is an idealistic Canadian painter who can't bear to compromise his artistic vision, no matter what the personal or financial cost. But when Severn is served with alimony papers by his ex-wife, Lillian (Gabrielle Rose), the reality of financial ruin sets in. Desperate to make ends meet, Severn reluctantly accepts a commission to paint a portrait of wealthy patron Marguerite Chirac (Barbara March). And, when Chirac comes to pose at his studio, she refuses to sit quietly.
