This 72-minute documentary explores the fascinating and sometimes frightening world beneath the sea. The more frightening aspects are given special emphasis by the three-man directorial staff. In one harrowing scene, a group of moray eels fight an uneven battle with a hostile octopus. Less traumatic are the film's comic interludes, involving a slow-moving sea turtle, a mother jellyfish, and a seemingly neurotic spiny lobster. Narrated by radio actor Joseph Julian, Miracle of the Reef was produced independently by Albert Butterfield, then test-marketed in several cities in hopes of attracting a nationwide distributor.
