Recalling Jon Turtletaub's Phenomenon (1996) and David Cronenberg's The Dead Zone (1983), this Russian-language science-fiction saga from director Vladimir Mizoyev explores the consequences when an ordinary man suddenly receives an onslaught of superhuman intelligence. Alexander Bezukladinov is a social outcast terminally incapable of standing up to his obnoxious employer, satisfying his demanding wife, or earning a decent income. So spineless is Alexander, in fact, that when his wife finally decides to leave him, he can't summon the courage to do anything about it. As the poor man's life crumbles before his eyes, he opts to end it all, but botches the suicide attempt and miraculously winds up with a cosmic gift: super-advanced cognition that enables him to see the future and the past and answer virtually any question on the spot. With the newfound confidence of a genius, Alexander has the potential ability to become the most powerful person on Earth. He begins by attempting to rescue his wife from a thug who has made her into his sex toy. Things get out of hand for Alexander, however, when two Secret Service agencies learn of his new "gift" and turn him into a target of international espionage.
