For some unknown reason, 26-year-old Bryant Washburn decided to play an old curmudgeon in this Essanay three-reeler. When Frances Bisbee (Edna Mayo) is orphaned, her parents' lawyer (Thomas Commerford) advises her to go live with her uncle, Henry Bisbee (Washburn). But Bisbee will agree only if his relation is a boy, so Frances disguises herself as a young man and becomes Francis. In spite of her feminine ways, which lead her grouchy old uncle to call her a "sissy," Frances slowly manages to win him over. She also finds a friend in Dick Truesdale (Richard C. Travers), the only young man Bisbee tolerates around his home. When she captures a burglar, her place in her uncle's heart is assured, even after it is revealed that she is a girl. Dick, meanwhile, is delighted that his pal can also be his sweetheart.
