Stage luminary Dustin Farnum, who in 1914 starred in Cecil B. DeMille's inaugural feature The Squaw Man, heads the cast of that same year's Lightning Conductor. The plot of this lighthearted romance finds Farnum cast as a British aristocrat. While touring the continent, he falls in love with the daughter of an American banker. The film is essentially a showcase for travelog producer Walter Hale, who serves as director of Lightning Conductor and plays a supporting part. The scenic views of pre-World War I Italy must have been quite impressive to American filmgoers of the era.
