Directed by Charles Burmeister, The King of Sixth Street chronicles the life of Gerry Van King, a relatively well-known local street musician from Austin, TX. The documentary follows King as he goes through his daily routine, spotlighting his daily jazz performances outside of a nightclub on Sixth Street. Easily recognizable by his trademark purple crown, the funkadelic musician is not only Burmeister's former bandmate, but an old roommate as well. The King of Sixth Street was featured at the first annual Independent Film Festival of Boston, where it won the award for Special Jury Prize.
