Some years prior to the Boer war, Jasmine (Violet Heming) marries the physically and financially powerful Rudyard Byng (Wilfred Lucas), even though she really loves Stafford (Conway Tearle). But Byng gives way to dissipation, and Jasmine becomes distracted by his male secretary, Fellowes (Paul Doucet). It is Stafford who keeps the wrathful Byng from killing Fellowes. But then the war breaks out, and Byng, who has finally gotten control of himself, leads a British regiment. Stafford, too, joins up. Byng becomes a hero and tries to save Stafford during a battle. As he dies, Stafford urges Byng to forgive Jasmine's indiscretions, and he and his wife reunite. This picture, directed by film pioneer J. Stuart Blackton, was based on the novel by Sir Gilbert Parker.
