THE INVISIBLE MEDIUM is a site-specific play, directed by Vicky Boone of Frontera @ Hyde Park Theatre in Austin, Texas. The piece recounts the true story of Boone’s geophysicist grandfather, “Preacher” Boone, who traveled through the southwest of the United States and South America during the 30s and 40s, searching for oil. THE INVISIBLE MEDIUM follows “Preacher” during his years in Caracas, when he briefly worked as a spy for the United States government and participated in an unsuccessful coup to overthrow the Venezuelan government. The play, the fourth in Hancock’s PATAGONIA OCTET, has 40 characters and over 700 scenes. Many of these scenes focus on “Preacher” Boone’s obsession with branding irons and his scandalous relationship with the Mexican-American nightclub singer, “Strawberry Brandy.”
