Running a brisk three reels, The Halfback was the maiden effort of the short-lived Conquest Film Company. Yale Boss, a popular juvenile performer of the period, starred in this adaptation of Ralph Henry Barbour's popular novel of prep-school life. Its title notwithstanding, much of the film was devoted to young Joel March's (Boss) efforts to get on the school baseball team. But by the final reel, autumn has arrived and March is dutifully pushing a pigskin. The Halfback was originally released as part of a package of Conquest short subjects, including a "silhouette" version of Puss in Boots, the animated The Dinosaur and the Missing Link, and the reality-based Captains of Tomorrow.
