Phillip Chernyak wrote, directed and scored this offbeat parody of Russian folk tales. Alla (Rachel Patterson), Lilia (Elizabeth Kenner) and Mila (Angela Rollo) are three sisters whose father (Victor D'Oliviera) is a humble cartographer. While out walking one day, the sisters stumble upon a strange forest where the animals can talk, and what they have to say suggests for the most part they're a rather surly lot. A flock of owls attempt to lift the spirits of the other forest creatures with their songs, but after a while they become more of an annoyance than an asset. The Golden Samovar received its world premiere at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival.
