Over the years, Latin America's Garifuna people have survived many threats to their culture. Today, more than 3,000 of them have emigrated to the Chicago, IL, area. This film examines their culture through interviews, historical writings, and recent footage of their festivals. Segments focus on their healing ceremonies, rites of passage, and preferences for foods like cassava. Their African, Carib, and Arawak roots are also noted.
