A woman in mourning struggles on behalf of her late son's soul in this short drama from filmmaker Moon Jeong-Yun. An elderly woman has received word that her son was killed during his military service. The woman is a devout Buddhist whose faith states that someone must undergo a prayer ritual if they are to know contentment in the afterlife. Since he died on the field of battle, the woman assumes her son was unable to keep up with his prayers, so for forty-nine days she travels to her temple and prays in his place, hoping against hope this will appease the powers that be. The Forty Nine Day Meetings was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
