Gaumont's The Flat Next Door is set in a bustling rooming house. Two of the tenants, an elderly German and a handsome young sprout, both fall in love with their new next-door neighbor, a stunningly beautiful young girl. Unlucky in love, the German decides to commit suicide in the girl's apartment. He doesn't succeed, but he does manage to scare away a couple of burglars. As a result, the heroine throws over her young sweetheart in favor of the jovial German. This half-reel comedy was originally released in tandem with the Gaumont travelogue Tarascon on the Rhone.
