This 70-minute documentary was based on an idea by Story of Mankind author Hendrik Willem Van Loom. The film's thesis is that the only way a second World War can be averted is to battle aggressively for the cause of peace. To do this, the forces of democracy must be well armed to stave off any potential hostile actions from the fascist leaders of Europe. Innumerable newsreel clips are included, featuring such dictators as Hitler and Mussolini and such recent crises as the Spanish Civil War (the film's producers side with the Loyalists). Many of the battle scenes are surprisingly grim, especially for a late-1930s effort. Dismissed by critics as "nothing new" upon its first release, The Fight for Peace is fairly effective when seen today.
