Like most Danish films of the era, The Fallen Idol was distributed in the United States by Great Northern Film Company. Betty Hansen is top-billed as the Countess Cora von Smettan, a grown-up spoiled brat whose every wish and whim is granted by her indulgent husband. Even so, Cora is dissatisfied, and upon meeting a handsome actor, she decides to leave her husband and inagurate her own stage career. Unfortunately, her new boyfriend turns out to be a louse, and it isn't long before Cora has deserted the footlights and set up housekeeping in the slums of Copenhagen. She is rescued by her husband and restored to her former luxurious station in life, but she never gets over her matinee-idol sweetheart -- and, after witnessing the "fallen idol" on-stage for the last time, she drops dead, apparently from grief.
