Imagine a world in which any wish, no matter how extravagant, can be fulfilled -- a world in which every brainchild of an artistic genius is brought to fruition. Peter Carl Faberge was court jeweler to Russian Czars Alexander III and Nicholas II, and in 1885 he began an annual tradition of fashioning one golden Easter egg, complete with cunning gold traps and precious jewels hidden inside. His artistic flair so delighted the Russian royal families that they gave Faberge free rein to create anything he wished; as a result of their generosity and frivolity, there are 49 of these unique and stunningly crafted Easter eggs -- each with a different "surprise" inside -- in existence today. For The Fabulous World of Faberge, A & E has gathered together historians, jewelers, collectors, and Faberge's descendents to tell his extraordinary life story, from the rise of his art to the fall of a monarchy.
