Need and compassion come face to face in this documentary short subject. St. Boniface Church is a house of worship located in one of San Francisco's most crime-ridden neighborhoods. Each day, the pastors and staff at St. Boniface open their doors to the city's homeless population, allowing those with nowhere to go to sleep on their pews. As the camera records the men and women who come looking for a roof and a place to lay their head, we hear their thoughts in voice-over interviews as they talk about the lives they once led before their luck turned against them. Directed by Kristine Samuelson and John Haptas, The Days and the Hours was screened as part of the "Crisis and Opportunity" short subject series at the 2007 San Francisco International Film Festival.
