THE COUNTRY OF THE EMERALDS is the story of a clandestine ring in the Colombian region of Boyacá, that struggles against the government, the police, the army, the ruling class, and various multinational interests for the control of the world's richest emerald mines.
Through violence and the systematic corruption of the government involving a Colombian president and many high-ranking politicians, the clan gains the control of the mines. Its powerful and efficient organization, whose ties and codes of law are very similar to those of the Sicilian mafia, is rooted in the ancestral native tribes of the region—the Muzos and the Maripies.
THE COUNTRY OF THE EMERALDS is a movie of epic proportions, tracing the life of Isauro Murcia from the time he was a child until he becomes the man who defies the top gangster Efrain Gonzales and legalizes the clandestine mining. Before his violent death, Isauro reaches the chief position of the organization.
