Former child actress Gladys Hulette stands out as the worldly cigarette girl in this society drama. She works in a cabaret and is in love with Trot, a dancer. But a lawyer persuades her to enter into a marriage of convenience with his client, Meredith (William Parke Jr. (yes, the director's son). Meredith is infatuated with a woman (Florence Hamilton) who only has eyes for his money. His assets are put in the cigarette girl's name, and with her wisdom and cleverness, she manages to defeat the woman and her partner (Warner Oland). In the end, it turns out that Trot is not exactly the knight in shining armor that the cigarette girl thought. Meredith, on the other hand, has realized that his wife-in-name-only is quite a find. The marriage becomes one of love, not merely of convenience.
