Filmed in Europe, The Broken Rose was distributed in America by Crown productions. Running anywhere from three to four reels, the story concerns a sweet young girl who is incredible unlucky in love. The rose of the title turns out to be a symbol of the girl's unfortunate romantic history. The final reel consists of a death scene that out-Camilled +Camille. Evidently, the leading lady had very blue eyes, inasmuch as they photographed "blank," a common failing of pre-WWI film stock. This problem would later be solved by such creative cinematographers as James Wong Howe, saving the careers of many a blue-eyed actor and actress.
