The Boob Weekly was a series of animated cartoons written and directed by fabled comic-strip artist Rube Goldberg. Animated at Raoul Barre's studio under the supervision of George Stallings, the weekly series parodied "traditional" sports newsreels. For his participation, Goldberg was paid the then-astronomical sum of 75,000 dollars by Pathe, who distributed the one-reel films. In all, seven cartoons were ground out between May and July of 1916, none of them particularly noteworthy (at least, not to the critics of the time). Fourteen years later, Goldberg would be better represented cinematically by the early talkie musical comedy Soup to Nuts.
