Assembled by Ira W. Gallen, Television Toys is a nine-volume videotaped collection of vintage commercials from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Highlights of Volume One include such faves as Mr. Potato Head, Slinky, G. I. Joe, and Greenie Stick-Em Caps as well as such passing fancies as the 007 Action Pack and the Captain Midnight decoder. Volume Two contains Duncan Yo Yo, Silly Putty, Colorforms, Crayola, Chatty Cathy and a host of others. Volume Three is distinguished by a lengthy visit to the Topper Toy Factory (it's actually a promotional film, aimed at distributors). Volume Four includes two long segments from the New York TV kiddie show Wonderama, with host Herb Sheldon hawking a myriad of products. Volume Five is largely devoted to Mattel, including many celebrity and TV show tie-ins. And Volume Six of Television Toys offers us the best of Mottorific and Marx, among many other manufacturers (watch for a young Robby Benson in the Poppit Corn Popper ad). Even more treasures await us in the recently released Television Toys volumes #7, #8 and especially #9, which brings us up to the "Cabbage-Patch-Kids" 1980s.
