This Essanay "western" was probably filmed in the wilds of rural Southern Illinois. A young Easterner heads West to become a cowboy. Upon learning that his father has died and his mother faces eviction for non-payment of rent, the desperate hero turns to horse rustling to raise the needed funds. His girlfriend tries to prevent this but is unable to do so, and before long the headstrong young cowpoke is being pursued by a sheriff's posse. The captured hero is about to be lynched when the sheriff discovers the motivation behind the prisoner's criminal behavior. Touched by the boy's devotion to his mother, the sheriff releases the hero into the custody of the heroine.
