Anglo-American film pioneer Charles Urban maintained a busy London-based movie studio throughout the pre-WWI years. The range of subjects emanating from the Urban factory included such fantasy pictures as Tale of the Fiddle. Rescued from an outlaw by a courageous knight, a young woman falls hopelessly in love with her savior. She is visited by the Devil Himself, who hands her a fiddle and informs her that whosoever falls under the spell of the fiddle's music will instantly become her sweetheart -- for a period of one year. The price for the instrument, of course, is the woman's soul. She agrees to this bargain and soon has captured the heart of the brave knight. One year later, the Devil comes calling again -- and, of course, there's Hell to pay.
